IS SANTIAGO DE ALFAMA THE MOST ROMANTIC HOTEL IN LISBON ?
In the amalgam of streets that create the district of Alfama, the oldest in Lisbon, we find the Santiago de Alfama hotel. With only 19 rooms, full of hypnotic light from the Atlantic and views that make us forget everything and everyone (except the person next to us).
Heleen Rosa da Silva, of Dutch nationality, never imagined that one day she would succumb to the decadent beauty of the City of the Seven Hills and open this boutique hotel characterized by its simplicity and elegance, her particular contribution to the transformation that the city is experiencing “Lisbon is an old lady who needs new clothes”- she says.
Infinite details such as a Roman staircase or a vertical garden, the work of the landscape artist Luis Rebelo de Andrade take us through the peculiar universe of one of the most romantic hotels in the city.
The whirlpool bathtub, big enough for two, certaily inspires serious envy. Our suggestion? Take a daytime dip to luxuriate in the overdose of views and natural light.
We especially like its “Beauty Bar” Madame Bollinger, a 1950s beauty salon with the motto “Glamor Playfulness” and its restaurant “A Fabrica de Santiago” with the virtuoso chef Carlos Robalo, who creates Portuguese dishes with gastronomic accents from the former Portuguese colonies.
